Sun Peaks Enjoying Great Snow Conditions this Season

"Better than we expected and better than we'd heard," commented Nicolai Hansen while riding the chairlift at Sun Peaks. Nicolai traveled from Denmark to Sun Peaks and was pleased to find the mountain in such great shape. “It’s great to see just about everything open on all the different mountains,” he added.

Sun Peaks received near record snowfalls earlier this season and that, combined with early season snowmaking and an ongoing slope grooming and off-season maintenance program, has given the resort the upper hand against the curve balls Mother Nature has thrown this season.

“The significant snowfalls in November and December accumulated into a mid-winter like base much earlier than usual this year,” explained Jamie Tattersfield, Director of Mountain Operations for the Sun Peaks Resort Corporation. “Our substantial base along with below freezing temperatures at night have allowed us to weather the warmer temperatures much like we do each spring,” continued Tattersfield.

“We’ve been very fortunate and the resort as a whole continues to do quite well with bookings on par, or up over last year,” added Christopher Nicolson, President of Tourism Sun Peaks. “We’re also seeing some business that had planned to go elsewhere.” The BC X-C Sprint Ski Championships were held at Sun Peaks due to the good slope conditions at the resort.
