Ski Magazine names Fernie Top 25 Resorts in North America

Fernie Alpine Resort was recently named one of the Top 25 Resorts in North America in the November 2005 issue of Skiing Magazine. The resort claimed the number 15 spot, and was one of only two Canadian resorts in the top 15.

The magazine compiled the results after surveying 340 pro skiers to find out which mountains have the best steeps, powder, and party scenes. Further, over 1,950 reader surveys were submitted to the magazine, where readers voted for their favorite resort. The magazine then gathered a number of statistics for each resort, including skiable acres, lift-served vertical, number of bars/eateries, and annual snowfall.

Fernie Alpine Resort provides challenge and variety to skiers and riders of all levels. Says Matt Mosteller, Senior Director of Business Development: “We’re thrilled that Fernie Alpine Resort has been recognized in Skiing Magazine’s annual list. It is due recognition – with over 29 feet of top-notch champagne powder every year, a vertical drop of 2,816 feet, 106 marked runs, five fun-filled alpine bowls, over 2,500 acres of skiable terrain, a cool small town atmosphere, and lots of steeps, Fernie has all the right ingredients to make it extraordinary and the best in Canada.”

Fernie Alpine Resort opened its 2005/2006 winter season with a number of improvements, including new snow guns and environmentally-friendly snowmaking equipment, more steeps and gladed terrain, and better bowl access.
