Fernie 2005/2006 Ski Season Improvements
Fernie Alpine Resort has announced improvements for the new season. The staff is carefully preparing the mountain for skiers and riders to enjoy even more of what Fernie has to offer when it opens on December 10th. They are brush cutting and grooming runs, creating new steep terrain, and clearing way for more gladed tree skiing. This season, expect easier access out of Fernie’s five Alpine Bowls, consistently referred to as some of the best terrain in Canada. Fernie is known for steep and deep, and this summer’s grooming will improve access for all abilities making a great experience even better. Areas skiers and riders will notice the most change in are the exits routes from Siberia, Timber and Currie Bowls.
For maintaining that ever present powder, those who like the steeps groomed will be happy to know there are two new additions to the mountain. Two new winch cats have been added to the line-up of grooming equipment, which will increase productivity and efficiency. The brush cutting and winch cats will improve the skiing and riding surface. Close to half a million dollars was spent on these winch cats which offer great grooming for intermediate and advanced terrain. There are also new additions to the snow gun line-up. Our new snow guns use less electricity, less water but expand our snowmaking capabilities.
The wait is almost over for Fernie’s opening on December 10th. Fernie Alpine Resort receives an average of 29 feet of snowfall each year. (It’s not a matter of luck – Fernie skiers and riders take their snow religion seriously, and believe it’s the snow dances and sacrifices to the Snow Gods that bring down Fernie’s epic powder dumps.) Be part of the tradition at this season’s biggest powder party: The Kokanee Snow Dreams party on February 3rd and 4th, 2006. Sacrifice an old snowboard to the Gods in the blazing bonfire, compete in Sasquatch mating call contests, make friends with a Kokanee Glacier Girl and dance the night away on the famous Griz Deck to a line-up of live bands. Win a heli-ski trip with Fernie’s own Glacier Girls. This is one party any true powder hound can’t miss.
