Busy Last Month of the Season for Lake Louise

Many of the northern hemisphere’s ski areas have now closed for the season, but there’s still a month to go at Lake Louise in Alberta.

Superpark 9 will see 300-500 of the world’s best snowboard athletes and terrain park builders will reshape Lake Louise’s already huge ShowTime Terrain Park into what organizers describe as, “the sickest, craziest terrain park ever.”

Lake Louise will be starting a new tradition: holding the Canadian Rockies’ Biggest Outdoor Party. Running from April 22nd to 27th, the views from the beer garden will be priceless.

The party, known as the Kokanee Spring Episode ’05, will take place on Saturday April 23rd and Sunday, April 24th. A huge stage will be smack dab in the middle of the base area and will be surrounded by the Kokanee Beer Garden. All it will take to gain access to the party is the day’s lift ticket! Ice bars, beer tubs, and margaritas will flow to the beat of live DJs spinning on Saturday in the Vinyl Occurrence DJ Competition. The crowd will pick their favorites and DJs compete for glory and cash prizes. Hip hop favorites, Sweat Shop Union, will hit the stage to wrap up Saturday.

On Sunday, the Spring Episode ’05 will continue with more live DJs, live bands, sun, beer gardens and more.

The Lake Louise season finally ends with the weekend of May 7th and 8th, dubbed 80’s Weekend. Fun races like the Undie 5 Hundie (a GS where competitors race in their favorite pair of long johns or tighty whities), an 80’s Name that Tune on the Kokanee Kabin at the base of Lake Louise, snow beach volleyball, and the resort’s version of the polar dip: the Spring Splash. The Spring Splash will see competitors trying to jump over a man-made lake of slush and water. Points will be awarded for costumes, grace, and the best cannon ball.
