ABA Lists Ice Magic Among 100 Events

The American Bus Association (ABA) announced that the 10th Annual Ice Magic International Ice Sculpture Competition and Exhibition in Lake Louise (Alberta) has been listed among the Top 100 Events in North America for 2004. Ice Magic’s inclusion in the Top 100 list indicates that the event offers excellent entertainment value to both tour groups and individual travelers from around the world. Last year, an estimated 12,000 visitors view the ice sculptures on display between January and March 2003.

Between January 16th and 18th, teams of two will compete in the Ice Magic International Ice Sculpture Competition at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. Now recognized as a world-class event, Ice Magic draws professional ice carvers from the United States, Canada, Sweden, Japan and France. During this three-day event, each team will carve 10 ice blocks weighing 300 pounds each into breathtaking sculptures. Sculptures are judged on overall impression, use of ice, technical skill, design and composition. All together, 60,000 pounds of clear ice is transformed into sparkling sculptures reaching seven feet in height.

In Lake Louise Village, individual participants will perform their craft at the Lake Louise Inn. Starting on Saturday, these carvers will entertain visitors while they sculpt seven ice blocks into magical art forms. At the Samson Mall, children and parents can join in the Little Chippers Ice Station and discover the wonders of chipping and creating their favorite characters in ice.

This event is made possible through the support of our major sponsors: Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, Lake Louise Inn, Labatt’s Brewery and many other local businesses.
